Does yoga help with insomnia?

Are you tired of not getting enough sleep? 

Have you been using sleep aids but your body refuses to rest, still?



Sleep to many is a luxury. And if you get a good rest every night, here is a big cheer to you!

The sad truth is that there are people, who are often anxious and stressed out with the hectic demands of family, work, and daily routines and it is that stress that’s stopping them from getting a sound rest at night. 

Others are haunted at night by the important tasks that were left out during the day because they do not have the time to complete them before bedtime. 

Worse case, the people suffering from insomnia.

Insomnia, in the simplest explanation, is a state when sleeping soundly is not a reality. 

When you have insomnia, you might have already counted cars that run to and fro the streets, or have counted sheeps in your head to no avail. 

Radically tiring, I know.  

But, what can you do?

For those with insomnia, specifically, what exactly can you do?

Let me help you through yoga so you don't have to lay still and continue to suffer.

According to Harvard Medical School, when practiced regularly, yoga will provide you great benefits, including a sound sleep. 

With sound sleep, I mean an improvement in the quality of your night rests, longer sleep hours, and quick awake-to-sleep transitions. 

Now if you have been suffering from insomnia and could not remember the last time you rested well, yoga is a must-try. 

Here is a quick run-through of how to do yoga to improve your sleep. 

I suggest you try out these 4 restorative and calm poses.

Forward Fold

This pose is a mild inversion that activates your body's parasympathetic nervous system, the part of your body that is responsible for relaxation. 

When you do this, your body will release tensions and slow down corresponding processes. 

The relaxation, release of tension, and slowing down of body processes 

will promote rest and sleep. 

Supine Twist

Generally, twists are movements that reduce back pain, release tension, and help detoxify the body. 

There are also several pieces of evidence that prove supine twist’s positive benefit in relaxing your baroreflex. 

When your baroreflex is calmed, your blood pressure can be lowered to a healthy level, as well. 

Child's Pose

You will love this pose as it will stretch your ankles, thighs, and hips. 

Doing this posture you will notice a passive backstretch of your torso and relaxation of your front body's muscles. This relaxing pose will reduce the stress you feel, calm your mind, and promote deep sleep with pleasant dreams.

Puppy Pose

This pose is a modified child's pose. 

The posture gently stretches your shoulders, spine, and your upper back. 

When your forehead is pointed on the floor, your pituitary gland is stimulated to release melatonin, which is the hormone for sound sleep.

On top of sleeping, yoga will improve your flexibility and physical strength, reduce stress, as well as enhance your breathing and mental focus.

Not getting enough sleep, or no sleep at all is a problem that many are suffering from. 

The great news is, this is not impossible to correct. 

Maybe challenging, but not impossible. 

Remember, when we are well-rested, we tend to be more efficient in everything we do. 

And yoga is one of the most perfect ways to help you achieve this.
