How having a spiritual practice helps with feeling comfortable with the unknown

This month's theme is letting go, mindfulness, and the unknown! Today it’s all about spiritual practice and how having one can help you find comfort in the unknown.
In light of the new year and in spite of the last one, an unknown future seems to be the theme of the world.
But how can having a spiritual practice train and prepare you to be comfortable with the uncomfortable?

When you let go of certain expectations of what can be, you enter a world of peace that significantly changes the way you perceive what happens around you.
Is the world broken or is it the media or society telling you it is?
Regardless, now more than ever it’s crucial to understand the power that lives inside you.

As humans, we have an endless amount of potential to accomplish and achieve all that is. So to answer the question_no_I believe the world is not broken if you are convinced deeply in your heart that it’s not and instead of it going backward, every year it gets better.
This is the basis of being comfortable in the unknown.
It’s great to have a plan along with dreams and personal goals as long as you do NOT attach expectations to those dreams and goals. And instead open to grace, to infinite possibilities.
But how do you get there, you ask?

Developing a spiritual practice.
The only successful way to achieve total peace of mind/heart in your present reality_without living in the future or the past_is by developing a spiritual routine that can increase your connection to something bigger than all of us and help you on a daily basis. This will not only make you a master of your thoughts, of your reality, but a master in finding comfort in the unknown.

How can you do this?

Meditation
Many think that meditation is a difficult practice; in reality, if you are breathing you are already meditating, because meditation is simply mindfully connecting to your inhale and exhale.
Start by sitting 5 minutes a day, focus on your breath, and let your thoughts pass through your mind without letting them consume you. Once you have mastered 5 minutes, increase to 10. Before you know it, you will want to sit for longer because of the stillness and feeling of peace you are able to experience.

Yoga
The asana (posture) aspect of yoga is an important physical/mental exercise and a positive addition to your spiritual practice. Starting a mindful yoga practice is beneficial to create an overall feeling of well being both in body and mind.
There are various types of  yoga that can help you with your individual needs, but all of them include a connection to one's Self that can completely change your life.
Other techniques you can include are praying, writing in your journal, or creating a gratitude routine.
As you navigate this new year, make creating a spiritual routine your number one intention.
By doing this and truly being connected to your higher Self and the universe you will transform your life for the better in all areas like love, success, money, friendship… and everything in will fall into place.

Be courageous. Be kind. Be mindful. Be present.

Your new life is going to cost you your old one

Maybe the fact that i saw my first dead body floating in the Ganga today prompted me to write this. He was all curled up, face down, left leg missing from the knee down. Sadhu's orange clothes bundled up, back showing. His floating had come to a stop, the river's current being slow and we helped him going his way moving the water with our cupped hands to create waves. My first thought was to take a picture, and the second 'how insensitive of me to even think that'. i mean, it's not like i need a photo to remember the feelings, emotions, and thoughts this event brought up. It's an image i will never forget. Also possibly the fact that i was attacked by two stray cats in two days, in two separate occasions made me think about death and the brevity of human life. It is quite frightening, let me tell you! Without notice the cat shape-shifts into this crazy fast ball that you think is going to attack your hair or something. In both instances the mother cat was...

Time ~ by Naomi of Gratitude Vietnam

A year ago, I had six months left of a two year contract.  I had signed the contract to save for a new life, start a business and leave the safety of the institution of education I had been happily ensconced in since starting school at the age of five. Six months felt like a life-sentence, yet when they had passed, it felt as though the time had run away in a flash! The impact of this perplexingly contextual perception of time during this period has stayed with me, and got me thinking… For as long as beings have been conscious on this planet, there has been witness to the passing of time. Whether through observation of changing seasons, passing of day and night, tidal movement, interplanetary movement or stars, each and every civilisation has found a way to measure, record, navigate and ‘manage’ time. We divide days into hours, lives into years, history into eras, evolution into periods. Our own lives we ‘chapter’ and bookmark by pivotal moments, decisions made (for better ...

The power of letting go

Non-Attachment.  A term the world is becoming more and more familiar with if.  Have you ever found yourself saying “I want peace”, “I want to feel more connected” or “I want to be able to live in present moment”?  Letting go of things, situations that no longer serve you, projections, desire to control the future, and expectations are the best practices to live a mindful and healthy  lifestyle; the recipe to a fulfilled and stress-free life.  Let go and start living!  Let go of stuff .  Are you the type of person who acquires so many things because you believe that this new ... fill in the blanks...  or that .... fill in the blanks ...  will make you happy?  By continuing to search outside of yourself for comfort without a strong inner practice, you will always be hungry: your heart and bellies will never feel full.  What if you could come from a place of enough—how much stuff do you actually ...
