5 Stretches to gently wake up the body in the morning

Ha ve you thought of developing a morning routine?  What you do in the morning is a reflection of your entire day, so why not make it a positive and productive experience?  Maybe you already have a spiritual practice as soon as you open your eyes or maybe you get up and rush  to get some coffee.  Either way, implementing stretches to your morning will wake up your body and help you feel energized for the rest of the day.  Today I' d like to share my top five stretches that you can implement every morning to feel rejuvenated and ready  for the day ahead.  Stretch #1: Standing Vertical Stretch    This exercise opens everything up and can actually elongate your spine, giving you better posture. Because of this, it can actually help make you appear taller over time.  Stand tall, feet hip-distance apart. Reach your arms overhead, interlace your fingers, palms up.  Inhale, stretch left, exhale.   Inhale back ...

How having a spiritual practice helps with feeling comfortable with the unknown

This month's theme is letting go, mindfulness, and the unknown! Today it’s all about spiritual practice and how having one can help you find comfort in the unknown.  In light of the new year and in spite of the last one, an unknown future seems to be the theme of the world.  But how can having a spiritual practice train and prepare you to be comfortable with the uncomfortable?  When you let go of certain expectations of what can be, you enter a world of peace that significantly changes the way you perceive what happens around you.  Is the world broken or is it the media or society telling you it is?  Regardless, now more than ever it’s crucial to understand the power that lives inside you.  As humans, we have an endless amount of potential to accomplish and achieve all that is. So to answer the question_no_I believe the world is not broken if you are convinced deeply in your heart that it’s not and instead of it going backward, every year it gets better....

Acceptance and the art of letting go

Letting go can be tough.  Whether it is a certain opportunity, a person you love, a friend you admire, or a dream you desire, all are hard pills to swallow.  We have all being there and we know the feeling.    So, in order to release all that is no longer serving you, let's talk about acceptance.   Acceptance - The first step in the art of letting go is accepting that what no longer serves your highest good has no place in your life.  This step can be the hardest, because life makes us attached to people and things, that's just part of human nature.   Take some time to yourself, feel the emotions come up without judging them, give yourself time to heal, search deeply within your sou,l and let your intuition guide you through the path.  A few things you can do during this time is developing a meditation routine or practicing ishwara pranidhana_surrender to they divine_ (you can read more abut this in ...

How letting go of expectations opens to life’s many possibilities

As we walk through this wonderful journey of life, we live through various stages of maturity and levels of growth.  In these times, society -and maybe even the entire world- has written a list of “expectations” from us to abide by to reach what is believed to be the ultimate goal in life, success.  What does success mean, though?   As I sit here, I ponder the endless possibilities we can all have if we let go of the one thing you are trained to acquire  since learning to walk, expectations.  Expectations! What a word that is.  you are expected to do certain things and be a certain way to achieve -fill in the blanks- by a certain time because society has implanted that if you don’t, you are not worthy (of what?)  or will never be successful (in what?).  One thing that 2020 has taught us all is to  let go of expectations and live life in the present moment.   If you apply this concept to the rest of your lives, the possibilities will be e...

5 Ways to Incorporate a Spiritual Practice in the New Year

The year 2020 has truly shaken our world to the core,  I think we can all assert that.  With all that's been happening, we inevitably find ourselves thinking about what is next and what can we do to tackle any challenges that may surface.  We cannot control what happens around us,  but we can control how we handle the circumstances.  The year 2021 is fastly approaching and I am here to talk about different ways in which you can incorporate a spiritual practice into your life.  This journey will make you feel excited and in control of your emotions and stresses.  Who doesn’t want to feel this way? I know I do!  Meditation Having a daily meditation practice is when you clear your mind and truly listen to your subconscious.  This is the time when you hear your  intuition and connect to your heart center.  There are a lot of misconceptions about meditation, one of which being trying to not have any thoughts and just “clearing your mind”...

Take your Yoga Off the Mat - Yama & Nyama in Action

The word   yoga   serves as an umbrella to depict various aspects of life: the spiritual, the physical, the everyday behaviors,  the way we relate to others, and so much more.  For  some, yoga is purely a physical exercise, a way to get stronger, healthier and more flexible; for others it’s meditating each day, and for others it might mean chanting mantras.  One thing is for sure, yoga serves as a transformative step into a deep sense of wellbeing that goes way beyond the physical, no matter what that may mean for you.   Yama and Niyama - described in the yoga sutra of Patanjali are  considered the “rules” of how to be in a constant state of yoga (union of body/mind and spirit).   They are defined as a moral code towards yourself and others;  a way of taking your yoga off the mat and into your life.  Following the yama and niyama forms the foundation of your entire practice, and honouring these ethics as you walk along life’s j...

What Yoga Is Not

Yoga is a practice we can all benefit from.  No matter who you are, what circumstances you are in, or where you are from, the yogic journey shows you how to integrate mind/body and spirit.  As social media is more and more prevalent these days, yoga has become a mainstream exercise that people practice gaining muscle, flexibility, and strength. But is that all it has to offer?  The answer is no!  Today I am describing what yoga is not and how you can get the full yogic experience next time you get on your mat and carry it -off the mat-.    I think we can all agree that the asana part of yoga is a great way to get in shape, but it’s the deeper side of it that truly changes your life.  Yoga is, most of all, a spiritual practice .  It offers the power and beauty to  work through your emotional stress and psychological challenges; it encourages you to reach for a deeper spiritual connection with your higher Self and to live in a deeper state of c...
