Do you want to beat anxiety? Read on

Anxiety.  If you suffer from it you know it’s not easy to deal with this state of mind/heart. When you are anxious it seems impossible to think clearly to manage even the simplest task. I hear ya!  So, what can you do? Start with your breath. It may seem obvious, yet when anxiety takes over it makes it difficult to even inhale and exhale properly.  Your breath is one of the most powerful tools you have available at all times and deep breathing activates your parasympathetic nervous system, the system that slows the heart rate and relaxes your muscles.  The way you breathe affects your mind/body as they are always connected and depending on each other.  You can calm your mind and relax your body simply by breathing slowly and deeply. As you start with the inhale followed by the exhale, do it mindfully - breathe with a sense of awareness.   Take a full deep breath in through your nose, fill the lungs, exhale through the mouth, repeat. Let a large sens...

How having a spiritual practice helps with feeling comfortable with the unknown

This month's theme is letting go, mindfulness, and the unknown! Today it’s all about spiritual practice and how having one can help you find comfort in the unknown.  In light of the new year and in spite of the last one, an unknown future seems to be the theme of the world.  But how can having a spiritual practice train and prepare you to be comfortable with the uncomfortable?  When you let go of certain expectations of what can be, you enter a world of peace that significantly changes the way you perceive what happens around you.  Is the world broken or is it the media or society telling you it is?  Regardless, now more than ever it’s crucial to understand the power that lives inside you.  As humans, we have an endless amount of potential to accomplish and achieve all that is. So to answer the question_no_I believe the world is not broken if you are convinced deeply in your heart that it’s not and instead of it going backward, every year it gets better....

Acceptance and the art of letting go

Letting go can be tough.  Whether it is a certain opportunity, a person you love, a friend you admire, or a dream you desire, all are hard pills to swallow.  We have all being there and we know the feeling.    So, in order to release all that is no longer serving you, let's talk about acceptance.   Acceptance - The first step in the art of letting go is accepting that what no longer serves your highest good has no place in your life.  This step can be the hardest, because life makes us attached to people and things, that's just part of human nature.   Take some time to yourself, feel the emotions come up without judging them, give yourself time to heal, search deeply within your sou,l and let your intuition guide you through the path.  A few things you can do during this time is developing a meditation routine or practicing ishwara pranidhana_surrender to they divine_ (you can read more abut this in ...

How letting go of expectations opens to life’s many possibilities

As we walk through this wonderful journey of life, we live through various stages of maturity and levels of growth.  In these times, society -and maybe even the entire world- has written a list of “expectations” from us to abide by to reach what is believed to be the ultimate goal in life, success.  What does success mean, though?   As I sit here, I ponder the endless possibilities we can all have if we let go of the one thing you are trained to acquire  since learning to walk, expectations.  Expectations! What a word that is.  you are expected to do certain things and be a certain way to achieve -fill in the blanks- by a certain time because society has implanted that if you don’t, you are not worthy (of what?)  or will never be successful (in what?).  One thing that 2020 has taught us all is to  let go of expectations and live life in the present moment.   If you apply this concept to the rest of your lives, the possibilities will be e...
